Warehouse Arson Destroys Over 3,000 Parcels in Surat, India

Approximately 3,173 parcels from an e-commerce platform were destroyed in a suspected arson attack, allegedly sparked by a business rivalry between courier firm owners. The incident occurred in the early hours of July 20 but was reported later by warehouse owner who manages deliveries for a logistics partner of the e-commerce platform.

In his complaint filed at the police station, he accused his former employer, of orchestrating the attack. According to him, he left the company a month prior following a salary dispute and went on to establish his own business in Bhathena. He claimed that the former employer had previously threatened him to shut down his new venture.

CCTV footage from the scene reportedly helped the victim identify several of the attackers, including his former colleague and four other individuals. The group allegedly broke into the godown at around 2:30 AM and set fire to parcels, three computers, printers, and other equipment. The destroyed goods, most of which were customer return packages, were valued at approximately Rs 14.15 lakh (USD 16,000).

Police have so far arrested two suspects who reportedly confessed during interrogation. With the employer named in the complaint, authorities are now working to locate and question him as part of the ongoing investigation.
