Authorities have seized over 600,000 counterfeit electrical products from a warehouse in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian district, following a coordinated crackdown by the Ministry of Industry. The enforcement action was in response to reports of widespread distribution of uncertified electrical items, which pose serious safety hazards.
The raid targeted a warehouse operated by a company found to be importing and distributing electrical products without proper certification. The operation was led by the Ministry’s Inspection Team, in collaboration with the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI).
Authorities seized 602,340 items including power strips, extension cords, and switches that lacked the mandatory TISI certification. Additionally, 2,460 showerheads and faucets bearing falsified or incorrect standard markings were confiscated. The estimated market value of the seized goods was nearly 2.6 million baht (USD 79,000).
Investigations revealed that the company not only imported these products but also owned the brands. By distributing non-compliant and potentially dangerous products, it violated Thai industrial safety regulations particularly concerning uncertified power strips known to pose fire risks.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the company for multiple violations, including the import and sale of uncertified goods, fraudulent use of certification marks, and breaches of product safety legislation. These offenses carry criminal charges and financial penalties.
All confiscated items have been removed from the market. The Ministry of Industry is coordinating with the Customs Department to tighten inspection protocols and improve oversight of electrical goods entering the country. The Inspection Team has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing safety standards and protecting consumers from substandard products.
