Authorities Seizes USD 34,000 Worth of Counterfeit Insecticides in Metro Manila, Philippines

Nearly USD 34,000 worth of counterfeit insecticides were seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) during an operation in Metro Manila. According to the NBI’s Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD), a total of 13,412 canisters of fake branded aerosol insecticides and 3,042 canisters of counterfeit aerosol insecticides of another brand, valued at USD 34,000, were confiscated.

The raid took place on October 1 following the issuance of search warrants by the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 46 against a shop in Valenzuela City and its affiliated warehouses in Tondo, Manila. Authorities confirmed that cases will be filed against the business owners for violating Section 155 in relation to Section 170 (trademark infringement) of Republic Act No. 8293, otherwise known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

The NBI added that the operation was initiated after the legitimate trademark owners lodged a complaint concerning the widespread sale of counterfeit insecticide products in the local market.
