Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) has intensified its campaign against intellectual property violations, seizing more than 2.9 million counterfeit products worth over 1 billion THB (approximately USD 30.7M) in the first eight months of 2025. Although IP infringement cases decreased by 7.6% compared to the same period in 2024, the number of seized counterfeit goods rose by 27.11%, showing a focus on large-scale distributors and high-risk storage facilities.
DIP Director-General explained that the significant increase in seizures resulted from tighter coordination between the Department and partner agencies to intercept counterfeit goods at their source. The majority of the confiscated products were hazardous to health and safety, including counterfeit food, cosmetics, engine oil, and auto parts, alongside fake branded items such as watches, jewelry, footwear, and clothing.
DIP Director-General said that these operations were the product of collaboration between DIP, the Economic Crime Suppression Division, the Royal Thai Police, and private rights holders, focusing on zones such as shopping centers in Pathumwan and warehouses in Samut Sakhon. Seized goods were found to be distributed through both traditional retail outlets and e-commerce platforms.
To strengthen enforcement in the digital space, DIP has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on online IP protection with 44 public and private organizations. This agreement mandates major e-commerce platforms to adopt a “Notice and Takedown” mechanism for removing listings that violate IP rights.
DIP Director-General added that DIP will continue public awareness campaigns to promote respect for intellectual property, encouraging consumers to purchase legitimate and certified products.
