Japan is currently experiencing a shortage of local company produced beverages, including its popular beer and bottled teas, following a major cyberattack that disrupted the company’s operations nationwide. The attack, which affected the company’s ordering and delivery systems, has forced most of its factories in Japan to halt production since September 29. The company confirmed it has started limited manual processing of orders and shipments but has not provided a clear timeline for full recovery. The company’s email system and call centre operations were also impacted, though preparations are underway to restore services.
Major Japanese retailers such have warned customers about possible shortages. A retailer noted that its bottled tea range, produced by the company, may be out of stock, while another retailer has paused shipments of the company’s products altogether. The company’s president apologised for the disruption, stating that restoring operations and maintaining supply to customers remain their top priorities. While the company’s international operations remain unaffected, the cyberattack’s impact on its domestic market, accounting for half of its total sales, poses a significant challenge for the company.
