An automaker has disclosed the scale of its global crackdown on counterfeit parts in 2024. Working closely with local and international authorities, the company targeted the sale of fake spare parts, accessories, and related merchandise, carrying out 793 raids worldwide that resulted in the seizure of over 1.5 million counterfeit auto parts and products. The automaker noted that this figure represents an increase compared to previous years.
While counterfeit products often appear identical to genuine parts, they fail to meet the company’s strict quality and safety standards, posing serious risks to drivers and passengers. Seized items included air filters made from highly flammable materials and brake components containing hazardous substances such as lead and arsenic, both of which could lead to severe accidents or fatalities. “Originals stand for tested quality. They meet technical, environmental, and occupational safety requirements, ensuring road safety,” emphasized by a member of the Board of Management of the company’s Group for Integrity, Governance & Sustainability.
The crackdown also revealed a rise in counterfeit goods targeting the company’s luxury and high-performance sub-brands. Many raids saw illegal workshops operating in unsafe and environmentally harmful conditions. Through months of investigation, which included tracking online listings and following leads, the company was able to identify and dismantle production sites. In 2024 alone, over 212,000 online listings for counterfeit products and trademark violating materials were removed.
The automaker warns consumers to remain vigilant when shopping for parts, especially with offers priced significantly below market value, and encourages careful inspection for defects to avoid the dangers posed by counterfeit products.
