Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the robbery of USD 376,000 from a parcel vehicle that was intercepted at Ramapuram Chepad along the national highway.
The arrested suspects are residents of Tiruppur. Authorities apprehended them in their hometown. Meanwhile, seven others involved in the planning and execution of the heist, remain at large. Investigators believe it will only become clear how the group discovered that the lorry was transporting a large amount of money once the absconding suspects are caught and interrogated.
One allegedly prepared and provided the fake vehicle registration used in the crime, while the other was actively involved in the robbery. Both men were produced before the Haripad court and have been remanded in custody.
The theft occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on June 13, when eight men traveling in a vehicle stopped the parcel service lorry and looted the cash. The group then fled towards Tiruppur.
Investigators, using CCTV footage, managed to identify the vehicle used in the heist. However, the suspects had switched the vehicle’s number plate upon entering Tamil Nadu, complicating efforts to trace them.
All the suspects hail from Tiruppur, Kumbakonam, and Thiruvallur regions, and the entire operation was reportedly planned in Coimbatore. Among the absconding accused is owns a textile business in Kumbakonam. The group is said to have been involved in similar offenses in the past.
