SCRS 2024 Shanghai Pudong Commission of Commerce Guest-of-Honour Speech & Opening Ceremony

Organized by Transported Asset Protection Association Asia Pacific (TAPA APAC), the Supply Chain Resilience and Sustainability (SCRS) Conference 2024, was held in Shanghai, China, on June 25-26 during the International Economic Organization Month initiated by Pudong New Area Expo Bureau Administration. The trademark conference brought together over 250 industry leaders and experts to discuss major supply chain opportunities and challenges including the critical role of resilience and sustainability in today’s global supply chains.

TAPA APAC was honored to invite Ms. Liu Xiaodan, Director of Shipping Department from the Shanghai Pudong Commission of Commerce, to deliver a compelling address at the beginning of the conference and to augurate the opening ceremony.

Ms. Liu Xiaodan pointed out the challenges posed by the current international political and economic climate, which have introduced numerous uncertainties into supply chain operations, but there is also an immense potential in the green, intelligent, and digital transformations of supply chains. In the past, many transportation concepts and standards had not aligned with current quality systems and green, low-carbon requirements due to a lack of exposure to advanced concepts. Pudong New Area needed the involvement of influential international supply chain organizations like TAPA APAC to align businesses across the region with industry best practices and as a common language between stakeholders.

She also emphasized TAPA APAC’s significant role in supporting the region’s supply chain development by helping companies to stay resilient against evolving threats and tap into the latest trends and technological solutions. The establishment of TAPA APAC China Office in Pudong underscores further the association’s commitment to develop and promote TAPA’s global standards that maintain the resilience, stability, and sustainable development of the global supply chain. With the conference announcing the launch of TAPA APAC’s Brand Protection Initiative towards developing a standard, she looks forward to the standard which will significantly enhance the safety and sustainability of the global 

As China’s economic center, Shanghai offers extensive application scenarios for supply chain innovation and development. The Pudong New Area is tasked with building five core centers – international economy, international finance, international shipping, international trade, and technology innovation. Achieving this goal requires robust support from the supply chain. Hence, Pudong New Area, at the forefront of China’s reform and transformation, remains committed to openness, innovation, and inclusiveness, striving to create a world-class business environment. Ms. Liu Xiaodan extended an invitation to international enterprises to invest in Pudong, leveraging its open, innovative, and inclusive environment. She also expressed her hope that TAPA APAC would continue to host its annual conferences in Shanghai, fostering greater collaboration and knowledge exchange within the industry. The conference highlighted TAPA APAC’s growing influence in China and showcased the increasing integration of Chinese companies into global supply chain networks, aligning with international standards and practices.

Following Ms. Liu Xiaodan’s insightful address, the official opening ceremony commenced with a symbolic gesture. Mr. Alan Liu, China Office Official Representative of TAPA APAC; Mr. Matt Lee, Vice-Chairman of TAPA APAC; Mr. Tony Lugg, Chairman of TAPA APAC; Liu Xiaodan, Director of the Shipping Service Department at the Pudong New Area Commission of Commerce; Mr. Wutao, Deputy Director of Investment Promotion Department at the Expo Administration Bureau; and a representative from the Pudong Public Security Bureau Non-Management Office stood together to mark the conference’s beginning. They placed their hands on the event digital screen, initiating a countdown that symbolized the launch of the conference, setting an energetic tone for the two-day event. 

As Ms. Liu Xiaodan and other dignitaries emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in addressing the challenges faced by the global supply chain. The event’s commencement was a powerful reminder of the collective commitment to advancing the industry, promising a fruitful exchange of ideas and strategies in the sessions to follow. The presence of key figures from both the public and private sectors highlighted the integrated efforts required to build robust, future-ready supply chains.
