The airport police have launched an investigation after a 10 kilogram silver bar, valued at USD 18,000, was reported stolen from the domestic cargo terminal of an airport. The incident allegedly occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. during cargo loading operations.
According to the FIR filed by a senior operations associate, the theft became known when the airline’s Delhi office reported that one silver bar was missing from a consignment sent to Delhi. The shipment contained 25 silver bars and was handed over to the company which manages cargo handling at the airport cargo terminal.
When the consignment arrived in Delhi, officials discovered only 24 bars instead of the 25 listed, the FIR stated. The Ahmedabad cargo team was immediately alerted to verify the discrepancy. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, it was found that only 24 silver bars had been placed onto the flight trolley during loading.
Further internal checks revealed that the missing silver bar, weighing 10 kilograms and worth USD 18,000, was allegedly stolen from the terminal’s buildup area by an employee who was on duty at the time. The complainant accompanied by officials proceeded to the airport police station to formally register the complaint against the accused employee.
Police have registered a case pertaining to theft and criminal breach of trust. Investigators are currently analyzing CCTV footage and examining staff records from the cargo terminal to reconstruct the sequence of events. Preliminary findings suggest that the accused who was responsible for handling the cargo trolley, removed one bar before loading, an officer from the airport police station said.
Police are now coordinating with airport security officials and the cargo management team to recover the missing silver bar and determine whether additional individuals were involved in the incident.
