Police have apprehended six members of an interstate gang accused of looting freight containers on highways, resulting in the recovery of stolen goods worth over ₹38 lakh (USD 43,000). District Superintendent of Police confirmed the arrests on September 8, noting that the case stemmed from a July 23, 2025 incident when a freight container transporting medicines from Bhiwandi was intercepted near Karanja along the Samruddhi Expressway. The culprits broke three locks on the vehicle and fled with 46 boxes of medicines valued at nearly ₹2.43 crore (USD 275,000).
On July 30, the company’s manager filed a complaint at the police station, prompting a joint investigation by the Local Crime Branch, Cyber Cell, and police. Investigators analyzed data from over 85,000 vehicles that traveled the expressway on the day of the theft, narrowing their focus to two suspicious trucks. This led to operations across Pune, Nashik, Bhiwandi, and several districts in Madhya Pradesh, including Indore, Dewas, and Ujjain.
During the Ganesh festival, officers intercepted a truck on the Samruddhi Expressway, arresting four persons. Electronic cutters and other tools allegedly used in the robbery were also seized. Subsequent interrogation identified two masterminds who were later tracked down and arrested in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh.
