Driver Among Four Arrested for Copper Scrap Theft in Delhi, India

Delhi Police’s crime branch has arrested a truck driver and three accomplices for orchestrating the theft of 6,000 kg of copper scrap worth Rs 55 lakh (USD 62,000). The driver initially posed as a victim, claiming that robbers disguised as bank officials had intercepted his vehicle near Signature Bridge on Ring Road around 11 a.m. According to his statement, the impostors entered the truck, injected him with a drug, and fled with the consignment of 80 bags of copper scrap while he was unconscious. An FIR was filed at New Usmanpur police station under multiple sections, including theft of the BNS Act.

However, investigators uncovered the driver’s involvement after inconsistencies in his account were revealed during a review of CCTV footage and call records. Under questioning, he confessed to being a central conspirator. His associates were also taken into custody. Police said a junk dealer from Kotla Vihar, was the mastermind behind the plan. He enlisted another suspect, who had experience administering injections, to handle the logistics of incapacitating the driver and staging the theft.
