Person Arrested After USD 129,000 Aluminium Trailer Theft in Australia

Detectives from the Hume Crime Investigation Unit have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a trailer loaded with over $200,000 (USD 129,000) worth of aluminium from a Campbellfield warehouse earlier this week.

According to police, the 45-foot flatbed trailer, which was carrying large aluminium poles, was taken from outside a business on Sydney Road at around 5 a.m. on Monday, 16 June.

Authorities were alerted the following day when the stolen trailer was spotted being driven along Sydney Road at approximately 2:10 a.m. Officers quickly responded and found the truck abandoned on Cavendish Street in Broadmeadows.

During a search of the vehicle, police recovered a backpack containing $10,350 (USD 6,719) in cash. The Dog Squad was deployed and tracked the suspect, who had fled on foot. He was discovered hiding in a creek grassland area near Ripplebrook Drive.

The suspect was arrested and is currently being interviewed by police. Investigators are continuing to search for a second individual believed to have been involved in the theft.

The investigation remains active.
