A fire broke out on a container ship, the MV KMTC Shenzhen, near Pantai Acheh, Port Klang. Fortunately, none of the crew members were injured in the incident. Upon receiving a distress call, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) swiftly deployed a Selangor MMEA boat, two tugboats from Westport, and another from Northport to the scene.
The fire originated in the ship’s cargo area, prompting the use of water cannons from the tugboats to bring the flames under control. The MMEA confirmed that all crew members were successfully rescued and accounted for, ensuring their safety.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department’s director reported that the fire on board the MV KMTC Shenzhen was effectively contained within two hours of the rescue team’s arrival. Firefighters reached the location of the container ship at 1:38 a.m., and with the assistance of other departments, including the MMEA, they managed to gain control over the fire by 3:33 a.m.
However, at 7:20 a.m., the department’s reconnaissance team discovered that two containers on the ship were still emitting smoke. These containers contained general goods and resins, with one experiencing a leak. The team is currently working to extinguish the remaining embers of the fire through direct attack while inspecting the containers and fixing any leaks that may be present.
