The Next International Shipping hub in Asia Pacific!
Global supply chains have been pressured by Covid-19 and the world have seen the sheer importance of supply chains in China given the ripple effect that it has on global trade. At this critical moment, Shanghai Pudong New Area People’s Government hosted “Pudong New Area Conference on High-Quality Development of Core Area of International Shipping Center” on 14 February 2023 to announce its latest official plans for Pudong New District to become the next international supply chain shipping hub and trade center in China.
In Shanghai, Pudong port accounted for 90.4% of the total throughput as a major shipping network incorporating inland waterway, ocean, land air and rail transport. Situated at the borders of the Yangtze River and facing the Pacific Ocean, Pudong’s geographical location has provided a strategic advantage for Pudong to be the next sea and air hub linking the whole world.
Since the development and opening-up in 1990, Pudong has attracted over 10,400 enterprises in the whole industry chain of shipping, Pudong’s shipping ecosystem is booming with constant new breakthroughs in the development of shipping technological innovations such as smart ships, shipping digitalization and green low-carbon application. With a community of global shipping economic organizations, Pudong has deeply engaged in global shipping governance and exchanges with industry associations including TAPA APAC.
TAPA APAC has been constantly working with local government and law enforcement agencies to support members in China, helping supply chains increase supply chain resilience and sustainability. With the support of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, Pudong New Area Commerce Commission, World Expo Administration and other departments and commissions, TAPA APAC China Office was officially established in Shanghai on 18th October 2021.
The establishment of TAPA APAC China Office is poised to support all TAPA APAC members in China through its development and adoption of TAPA standards across various risk areas including facility, trucking, guarding, parking and Cyber Security. These Standards are constructed on recognized industry practices, latest technology, international benchmarking, and regulatory collaboration at all levels.
“Through TAPA global security standards, we will continue to support and help Pudong manufacturers, logistics providers, and freight carriers build a sustainable and resilient international supply chain. Let’s make Pudong New District the strongest and most resilient international shipping hub in Asia Pacific”, Mr. Tony Lugg, Chairman of TAPA APAC, shared during the conference.
With Pudong progressing steadily as essential hub in China, the Asia Pacific supply chain and shipping landscape is realizing high quality growth towards the right direction – innovation, resilience and sustainability.
