Rising Demand for Vehicles Certification in Post-Pandemic Recovery for Enhanced Resilience

In response to the growing demands from manufacturers for TAPA certified trucks, logistics service providers have taken the initiative to certify themselves according to the manufacturers’ requirements. As a result, TAPA Asia Pacific has recently certified over 2,000 vehicles for its TAPA Trucking Security Requirements (TSR) 2020 Standards in May 2023. This certification underscores the commitment of logistics service providers to prioritize the utmost security of goods in transit. From the perspective of buyer companies, particularly manufacturers, this achievement holds great significance as they rely on secure transportation to effectively safeguard their products and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.

The TAPA Trucking Security Requirements (TSR) 2020 Standards have emerged as a benchmark for logistics service providers, enabling them to enhance security measures and protect goods throughout the supply chain as well as manage disruptions such as weather or other related issues. For buyer companies, especially manufacturers, this certification is vital as it assures them that their products are being transported with the utmost care and security. By partnering with TSR-certified logistics providers, manufacturers can mitigate risks such as theft, loss, and damage to their valuable assets during transportation.

With the growing prevalence of supply chain disruptions and an increasing number of security threats, manufacturers cannot afford to overlook the importance of secure transportation. The TSR certification offers a comprehensive framework that encompasses various aspects of security, including physical measures, personnel training, and information technology systems. By adhering to these standards, logistics service providers can fortify their operations and provide a reliable solution to buyer companies.

The certification of over 2,000 vehicles for TSR 2020 Standards in May 2023 highlights the significant strides made by logistics service providers in elevating security practices. The certified vehicles are distributed across different TSR levels, with each level representing a different level of security standards depending on the risk assessment completed by the buyer or supplier.

With the increases in demands by manufacturers and shippers to use TAPA TSR certified trucks, TAPA APAC anticipates an even larger number of certifications once the new 2023 TSR Standard is launched later this year. The updated standards will incorporate the latest industry practices and address emerging security challenges and in 2024, TAPA APAC will launch pilot programmes for TSR Cold Chain, Courier and Aviation Security.  By adapting to the evolving landscape, logistics service providers can further enhance their security measures and strengthen their commitment to safeguarding goods in transit as well as align with customs and aviation security programmes alike.

Mr. Tony Lugg, Chairman of TAPA APAC, expressed his satisfaction with the certification of over 2,000 vehicles and shared his anticipation for the future. He stated, “We are delighted to have certified over 2,000 vehicles under the TAPA Trucking Security Requirements (TSR) 2020 Standards. Manufacturers want to use secure, resilience and sustainable ground transportation and this achievement showcases the industry’s dedication to ensuring the secure transportation of goods. We expect an even greater number of certifications with the upcoming launch of the new 2023 TSR Standard, which will empower logistics service providers to meet evolving security challenges.”

Mr. Lugg highlighted the importance of TSR standards and their impact on the logistics industry, stating, “The TSR certification serves as a testament to the commitment of logistics service providers in enhancing resiliency and sustainable practices. By adhering to these standards, they not only mitigate risks but also enable manufacturers to focus on their core operations without compromising the safety and integrity of their products. Hence, this increasing their overall operational performance and achieving long-term cost savings with reduced financial impact from cargo crime and disruptions.”
