Nike on Wednesday outlined a series of steps — including rail fast-tracking and spreading out its distribution network — it took since the pandemic to improve product flow and shipping resiliency amid systemic supply chain disruptions.
In August, the shoe and apparel giant secured a dedicated Los Angeles-to-Memphis train it calls the “sole train.” The direct rail link between the nation’s largest container ports and the company’s Tennessee facilities includes a partnership with local drayage carriers for expedited offloading.
Nike also added regional distribution centers in the U.S. and Europe and 1,000 new “collaborative robots” to assist with sorting and packing as industrywide labor constraints continue.
